Melissa Hughes
Melissa Hughes has studied classical
ballet for the past 16 years. She
started taking ballet classes at the age of seven at Rozann-Zimmerman’s and
later at Ballet Arts. At the age of fourteen, Melissa joined the Conejo Civic
Ballet Company and at seventeen became a principal dancer. While a member, she performed lead and
soloist roles in many of their productions including Snow White, Sleeping
Beauty, Paquita, the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Stars and Stripes, Pas De Quatre,
Coppelia, and La Bayadere. Melissa
spent her summers dancing at Virginia School of the Arts and, on scholarship
for two years, at the School of the Hartford Ballet. In 1998, Melissa began attending Moorpark
College where she performed in numerous productions including Swan Lake, Don
Quixote, and several pieces of her own choreography. In 2001, Melissa joined the Anaheim Ballet
Company as a demi-soloist and this past year was promoted to soloist. With the company, she has performed in the
Nutcracker, Le Corsaire, Carnival of the Animals, and Peter and the
Wolf. Melissa was recently hired by
the Media City Ballet as a soloist for their upcoming fall season. Melissa graduated cum laude in May of 2003 from Cal
State Northridge with a B.A. in English Literature. Ms. Hughes currently teaches ballet,
pointe, lyrical, jazz, and tap at Expressions Dance Incorporated and enjoys
every moment working with the young students. |
