Melissa Hughes has studied classical ballet for the past 16 years.  She started taking ballet classes at the age of seven at Rozann-Zimmerman’s and later at Ballet Arts. At the age of fourteen, Melissa joined the Conejo Civic Ballet Company and at seventeen became a principal dancer.  While a member, she performed lead and soloist roles in many of their productions including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Paquita, the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Stars and Stripes, Pas De Quatre, Coppelia, and La Bayadere.

Melissa spent her summers dancing at Virginia School of the Arts and, on scholarship for two years, at the School of the Hartford Ballet.  In 1998, Melissa began attending Moorpark College where she performed in numerous productions including Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and several pieces of her own choreography.  In 2001, Melissa joined the Anaheim Ballet Company as a demi-soloist and this past year was promoted to soloist.  With the company, she has performed in the Nutcracker, Le Corsaire, Carnival of the Animals, and Peter and the Wolf.  Melissa was recently hired by the Media City Ballet as a soloist for their upcoming fall season.

Melissa graduated cum laude in May of 2003 from Cal State Northridge with a B.A. in English Literature.  Ms. Hughes currently teaches ballet, pointe, lyrical, jazz, and tap at Expressions Dance Incorporated and enjoys every moment working with the young students.
